Policy Overview

This event will be held at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center (HASLC) as a space for students of Iowa State University to hold belongings during the students’ transition from summer to fall housing. This event will be held from July 26th to August 2nd. The following document will provide guidelines for how the event will be organized.

Explanation of Fees

There will be two options of storage space and two options for truck and trailer parking. Spaces available will be priced as follows:

10 ft. x10 ft. = $100 total
10 ft. x20 ft. = $150 total
Truck and Trailer Inside= $140
Truck and Trailer Outside=$100.

Any truck and trailer exceeding 600 sq. ft. will result in an additional charge of $50.

A nonrefundable $50 deposit will be turned in with the application in order for the application to be accepted. Upon check in, the remainder of the fee will be paid before the move in may begin.

Application Procedure

Applications for the event are due as postmarked to 1221 Kildee Hall, Ames IA 50011 by July 13th, or dropped off at 2508 Mortenson Rd, Ames IA by July 13th at 4:30 pm. All applications must include customer contact information, emergency contact information, verification of payment, proof of student enrollment through the University ID number of the customer, space requested, amount due per space, and move in time and date requests.

Along with the application, a nonrefundable $50 down payment will be required for the application to be accepted. As the customer arrives and checks in, the difference of the total payment will be due. (for example: a 10x10 space will cost $100; $50 down payment and $50 at the door).

Once the application has been processed, the customer will be contacted via email, as provided on the application to confirm when the customer will be allowed to check in and check out of HASLC. This email will include the required documents and identification to be present at the time of move in. Those documents include a signed copy of the waiver, a permanent form of identification (such as a driver’s license), and a University ID.

Move In

When customers arrive at HASLC (2508 Mortenson Rd, Ames IA) he or she will be given a specific date and time to move in and are asked to check in on the south side of the building where they will receive further instructions for the move in.

On the day of move in, the customer will be asked to arrive at a specific time, on the hour, and will be given one hour to complete the move in. If all documents, payments, and identifications are present, the customer will be led to a specific spot and will be given one hour to unload. When the customer is finished unloading, he or she will be given a “Pick Up Reminder Card” that will contain the date and time that has been assigned for move out.

A confirmation email will be sent to the customer as a reminder of when the move out date and time has been scheduled, a photograph of the customer’s assigned storage space, a copy of the signed waiver, as well as the identifications and documents that will be required to be present before move out.

Move Out

On the day of move out, the customer will be asked to arrive at a specific time, on the hour, and will be given one hour to complete the move out. In order to begin the move out process, the customer will be required to present a permanent form of identification (such as a driver’s license), a University ID, and the “Pick Up Reminder Card” that was given to him or her on the day of move in.

Truck and Trailer Specifications

If the customer has chosen to park a truck and trailer at the Hansen Center, the payment will be required as explained previously with maximum of 600 sq. ft. truck and trailer. Any truck and Trailer exceeding 600 sq. ft. will require an extra $50 payment.

Truck and Trailer parking indoors will be a first come first serve opportunity. In the case where indoor parking is unavailable the customer will be asked to park outdoors and will be charged the $100 fee as described for outdoor parking. If the customer chooses not to park outdoors as the alternative for the filled indoor space, the $50 deposit will be returned to the customer.

Third Party Deliver/Pick Up

In the case that the customer is unavailable to move in/move out his or her own belongings, the customer will have the opportunity to assign one person this responsibility, as documented on the application form. The application will ask for the contact information as well as the driver’s license number of this third party person. The third party, as documented on the application, will be required to present his or her driver’s license, and the customer’s University ID as well as the other required documentation.

Iowa State Hansen Center Staff will not assist in handling of the customer’s belongings during move in/move out process. The customer will be asked to have his or her own party to complete the delivery/pick up process within the hour.

Allowable Storage Items

The Hansen Center will allow the following items to be stored in the facility. Any additional items will only be accepted at the discrimination of the Hansen Center employee at the time of check in.

Prohibited items include: grills, torches, animals, food, flammable items or liquids, hazardous materials, paint, weapons, fireworks, propane tanks, jewelry, antiques, etc.

Liability

Iowa State University, the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center and its agents, assume no liability for items which students choose to place in storage at the HASLC.
