Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center

A Place to Learn

The facility is unique to Iowa State and nearly all of the Midwest, allowing animal-human interaction through teaching laboratories, outreach activities and a variety of functions for future and current students.

As a cornerstone in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ efforts to train students for a diverse set of opportunities in animal science, agriculture and related fields, the center provides an inviting environment for recruiting young people interested in learning more about the vast career opportunities within the agriculture industry.

Education continues when the students leave the classroom. A variety of student organizations use the facility to conduct meetings, host events, and network. The Hansen Center employs several Iowa State University students from a multitude of majors and backgrounds.

In addition, the facility holds a wide range of events outside Iowa State University, such as business meetings, formal dinners, and private celebrations. The center is truly versatile in its capabilities and an outstanding venue to have an event.

Jeff & Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Center Receives Impact Award

On Friday, October 28th, 2016, the Hansen Center received the Impact Award, one of the most prestigious awards presented by the Iowa State University Alumni Association. This award was established by the Alumni Association in 2000 to recognize individuals, businesses, organizations, or units whose programs or accomplishments bring broad recognition to the university and increased involvement of ISU constituents in the life of the university during the year prior to nomination. Our facility is the first of its kind to receive this great honor. The Hansen Center was recognized during a special awards ceremony held on the Friday of Homecoming Week, along with two additional recipients. Dr. Jeff Johnson, CEO of the Iowa State University Alumni Association spoke highly of the Hansen Center during the ceremony, stating that the facility is “a student-run educational incubator that benefits not just the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, but the larger community.” Dr. Johnson also mentioned that our student employees are learning about event planning and coordination, facilities maintenance, marketing, and more. Thank you to  Marshall Ruble (Manager) and Sarah Al-Mazroa (Alumni/Previous Assistant Manager) for their hard work putting the nomination together. To read more about other awards presented by the Alumni Association, and the other recipients, click here.
